UPDATE – 29 February 2012: Postponement of GRUR-ECTA Joint Brussels Workshop 2012

We regret to inform you that according to a communication received yesterday from the EU-Commission, the time-schedule for the legislative package for the reform of the European Trademark System has been further postponed and is not expected before June.

As a result, we are unfortunately no longer in a position to hold our GRUR-ECTA Joint Brussels Workshop “European Trademark Systems under review – A first analysis of the new proposed legal framework” on the 30 May 2012 but will have to postpone the workshop according to the EU Commission’s new time-table. We hope to be able to offer the Workshop programme at a later date and will revert to you in due course.

We thank you very much for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation/postponement of the event.

In its 5th edition of the GRUR meets Brussels Workshop series, the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) has joined forces with the European Communities Trade Mark Association (ECTA) to organise a GRUR-ECTA Joint Brussels Workshop entitled "European Trade Mark System under review – A first summary of the new legal framework".

This joint event consisting of two high level panels will provide a comprehensive roundup of the outcomes of the Max Planck Institute’s Study and especially of the package of legislative proposals to be presented by the European Commission in the spring of 2012. 

In a first panel, the MPI and key EU legislators will offer their insights of the new envisaged EU legal framework resulting from the EU/MPI Study.

The second panel will bring key representatives of OHIM, national trade mark officers and users together to discuss the new challenges and perspectives in the context of a peaceful coexistence of the EU and national trade mark systems.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday 30 May 2012 (from noon to 5 pm) at the Permanent Representation of the State of North-Rhine Westphalia to the European Union in Brussels and will be followed by a reception.
