Conference brochure

For the first time, we are holding our conference as a hybrid event. In line with the motto "One registration - two formats", you have the choice of participating in the working programme in person on site or via video stream as well as in selected events of the social programme.

The conference will be opened by a keynote speech by Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO. In the special committee sessions, current legal issues from academia and private practice will be highlighted and discussed with you:

  • New Deal for Consumers – German Act to strengthen consumer protection in competition and commercial law
  • New plant breeding methods trapped between different systems of protection
  • Implementation of the DSM Directive - where do we stand in Germany and the EU?
  • Enhanced unity in separation - expectations for the synchronisation of nullity and Infringement proceedings
  • News on AI and data

In addition to the committee sessions, you can participate in expert workshops on the following topics:

  • BGH Special I: Focal points of jurisprudence of Civil Senate I. on trademark and competition law
  • BGH Special II: Focal points of jurisprudence of Civil Senate X on patent law
  • AIPPI Special: Data rights - international experiences & perspectives
  • European Focus: On the Commission's Proposal for a Regulation laying down harmonised rules on artificial intelligence.

Within the framework of the annual conference, four GRUR dissertation prizes will be awarded for the first time for particularly outstanding doctoral theses.

The keynote speech at the conference will be dedicated to the city's most famous son: Ludwig van Beethoven, who was born in Bonn 250 years ago.

Bonn is history, development, diversity: a historic Roman city, beautifully situated on the Rhine and the Siebengebirge, birthplace of the Federal Republic of Germany, former capital and now German city of the United Nations and centre for international cooperation and sustainable development, home to world-famous museums and cultural buildings, and to people from 175 nations.

The lawyers and patent attorneys of the Regional Group West invite you to a reception in the Bonn Museum of Art, and at the festive evening in the historic Steigenberger Grandhotel & Spa Petersburg you can enjoy the legendary panoramic view of the Rhine Valley from a height of 336 metres.

Details on the conference programme as well as the registration and participation modalities can be found in the conference brochure and at www.grur2021.org.

We look forward to welcoming you in person or virtually in Bonn this year!
