GRUR Newsletter 02-2020

GRUR - 2020-12-15

The GRUR Newsletter 02-2020 is available!

The current issue opens with a greeting from Stephan Freischem, Secretary General of GRUR, on the work of the Association in times of the pandemic. Norbert Diel, General Director, informs you about new developments in the field of GRUR science funding.

In the interview section, Amaryllis Verhoeven and Philipp Runge answer our questions on the recently published IP Action Plan of the EU Commission, while Prof. Dr Thomas Dreier gives an insight into the work of the GRUR Expert Committee on Copyright and Publishing Law and addresses exciting questions in connection with the implementation of the EU Copyright Directive into national law.

The pandemic has also shaped the work of the IP offices: In the section "From the Offices", the President of the DPMA as well as representatives of the EUIPO, the EPO and WIPO describe the measures and strategies taken in terms of Corona crisis management to cope with the special challenges.

This is followed by three contributions in which young authors from the circle of GRUR Junge Wissenschaft deal with current issues in the field of EU copyright law, data and digital consumer contract law as well as competition law:

- Dr Katharina Kaesling, LL.M.: Implementing platform responsibility in the EU: National legal cultures instead of the Digital Single Market?

- Klaus Wiedemann: Personal data as contractual consideration within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2019/770: What role do the GDPR and the ePrivacy Regulation play in digital consumer contract law?

- David Korb: Apple leaves us no choice

Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Jochen Bühling describes his impressions of the AIPPI Virtual Congress 2020, while Markus Rieck takes a closer look at the AIPPI Resolution “Inventorship of Inventions made using Artificial Intelligence”.

The Newsletter closes with a look at the southern hemisphere: Marius Schneider, Vanessa Ferguson and Nora Ho Tu Nam provide rights owners and their lawyers with ten tips & tricks for a successful IP strategy in Africa.

We hope you enjoy reading this issue!
