GRUR Newsletter 02-2018

GRUR - 2018-12-18

The new GRUR Newsletter is out!

The current issue opens with a welcoming address by Cornelia Rudloff-Schäffer, President of the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), followed by a technical contribution by Katharina Mirbt, Head of Department at the DPMA, Trade Marks, on the implementation of the European Trade Mark Directive (EU) 2015/2436 into the Office´s national trade mark procedure.

In our "GRUR Young Science Special" we present a total of nine articles by young authors from the "GRUR Junge Wissenschaft" conference, dealing with current issues of patent, trade mark, copyright, antitrust and data (access) law.

Our copyright experts Prof. Dr Malte Stieper, Prof. Dr Karl-Nikolaus Peifer and Dr Amit Datta discuss copyright contract law in the digital internal market, while in our interview section, we asked AI expert Sharad Gandhi about technical, social and legal aspects of machine learning and robotics.

We are also very pleased that the editors of our partner journal JIPLP have also contributed two English-language articles entitled "Copyright in CJEU case law: what legacy?" and "Registering your trade mark in Africa? Not as simple as it seems."

Further contributions will inform you about perpectives and challenges of CRIPSR Genome Editing, give insights into Data Property, Data Mining & Co - how data change our economy and our law, and analyse the judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union of 13 November 2018, C 310/17 ("Hekesenkaas"), in which the Court had to decide whether or not a particular taste can be copyrighted.

We hope that you enjoy the read!

Best regards

The team of the GRUR Head Office
