INTA conference "When Trademarks Overlap with Other IP Rights"

The International Trademark Association (INTA) has recently launched registration for its upcoming conference “When Trademarks Overlap with Other IP Rights” which will take place in Munich, Germany from 8-9 December. Leading authorities at advanced-level sessions will discuss the emerging issues in this area and achieve a solid understanding of the many opportunities and pitfalls of intersecting rights.

Topics include:

  • How can product designs be protected as two- or three- dimensional marks and through other IP laws?
  • How can trademark law protect artistic works and unregistered geographical indications?
  • How can trademarks be subject to unfair competition law, comparative advertising statutes or consumer protection laws, privacy and right of publicity?
  • What fundamental questions do the overlaps between trademark law and other IP rights raise and how should policy address these overlaps?

Highlights of the conference include:

  • A keynote presentation by Professor Jeremy Philips best known as the founder of the IPKat blog and Professorial Fellow in the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute
  • A special lunch time VIP interview by 2014 INTA Secretary, Ronald Van Tuijl of JT International S.A. (Switzerland) with Dr. Christoph Ernst, Ministerialdirigent, German Federal Ministry of Justice (Germany) and Dr. Mihály Ficsor, Vice President for Legal Affairs, Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (Hungary)
  • A lively panel discussion on trademarks and designs featuring speakers from the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (Germany) and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Spain).

This conference is organized by the Programs and Related Rights Committees of INTA with the support of GRUR.
