4th GRUR Int. / JIPLP Joint Seminar

GRUR - 23.01.2014

Register now: 4th GRUR Int. / JIPLP Joint Seminar on Monday, 10 March 2014 in Munich: The different notions of “copyright-protected work” in Europe

Since the beginning of 2013, the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) and Oxford University Press (OUP) have formed a publishing partnership to foster the exchange of content between GRURs journal Gewerblicher Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht, Internationaler Teil (GRUR Int.) and the Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice (JIPLP) a publication of OUP. Under the agreement, both journals are including a section in each issue which is filled by interesting content from the partner journal. In addition to that, the partners are offering a series of bi-annual Joint Seminars in London and Munich which are dealing with topical European IP issues.

The 4th GRUR Int. / JIPLP Joint Seminar being organised by GRUR in cooperation with JIPLP and the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (MPI) will look into the different notions of “copyright-protected workin Europe.

Experts from Germany, the U.K. and the Netherlands will

  • provide an update in the notion of work under EU copyright law including recent ECJ rulings;

  • give an overview of the legislation, case law and contractual practices in their respective countries;

  • analyse the influence of new forms of “co-creation” in the digital environment – such as crowdsourcing – on the concept(s) of “copyright-protected work”;

  • discuss to what extent notions of authorship and concepts of personal traits in the work still have an influence;

  • debate the question to what extent harmonization at EU level is needed.

The Seminar will take place on Monday, 10 March 2014 from 14.00 – 19.00 at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich, Germany. It will be held in English language without simultaneous translation. The seminar is open and free of charge. Please note that room availability is limited to 100 seats so that we recommend an early registration.
